Pokénections

Sixteen Pokémon share the board, and every one of them belongs to exactly one of four hidden groups. Pick four you think have something in common and submit them: a right guess reveals the group and its link, a wrong one costs one of your four mistakes. There is a normal board and an expert one every day.

Some links are plain, like a type or a generation; others take a fan's eye, like how they evolve or what inspired their design. Watch for the Pokémon that seem to fit two groups: only one split of the sixteen works.

How to play

Pokénections

  1. Pick four Pokémon you think share something and submit them. The Pokénections board with four Pokémon picked, the “One away!” notice, the mistakes left and the Submit button
  2. Right: the group is revealed with what links it. Wrong: you lose one of your four mistakes. Two groups found on the board, each with its link and its four Pokémon
  3. There are two boards a day, Normal and Expert. The Normal and Expert switch above the board

Sixteen Pokémon share the board, and each of them belongs to exactly one of four hidden groups of four. Your job is to find the four groups and what links each one.

Tap four Pokémon you think have something in common and press Submit. If all four belong to the same group, the group is revealed with its link and its colour. If not, you lose one of your four mistakes. Run out and the board shows you the groups you missed.

The rules

  • You always submit exactly four Pokémon. Deselect all clears your pick; Shuffle rearranges the tiles, which often helps you see a pattern.
  • "One away!" means three of your four belong to the same group. Swap one, not all of them.
  • Submitting a set you have already tried does not cost a mistake.
  • The colours run from easiest to hardest: yellow, green, blue, purple.

What links a group

Some links are plain and can be checked on the Pokémon themselves: a type, a generation, a colour, a shared ability or egg group, a weakness. Others take a fan's memory: how they evolve, what inspired their design, where they appear in the games or the anime.

Watch for the Pokémon that seem to fit two groups. They are there on purpose, and only one split of the sixteen works. If you can see five candidates for a group, find the group the fifth one is needed in before you submit.

Normal and Expert

There are two boards every day. Normal leans on the plainer links and has few Pokémon that fit two groups. Expert uses the harder links and several decoys. Switch between them with the toggle above the board; each keeps its own progress and its own result.

FAQ

When does a new board come out?

Every day at the same time as the other modes. Everyone gets the same two boards on the same day.

Does the order of the tiles matter?

No. The opening order is just a shuffle; tiles from the same group are never placed together on purpose.
