Both puzzles hide a Pokémon's official artwork and give a little more of it back with every wrong guess. Pixel starts as a handful of coloured blocks; Silhouette starts as a close-up of a black shape.

Each has its own Pokémon of the day, so one can be easy while the other is hard. Unlimited attempts, and your score is how many it took.

About this mode

Image Modes

Puzzles built on looking. Each one hides a Pokémon's official artwork behind a different kind of distortion and asks you to name it; in Pixel and Silhouette every wrong guess takes a little of the distortion away. There are three, each with its own daily Pokémon.

Pixel shrinks the artwork to a handful of blocks, so what you read is colour. Silhouette paints it solid black and opens zoomed in on the body, so what you read is shape. Palette strips it down to its colours alone. The same Pokémon can be trivial in one and hard in another, which is why they are separate puzzles.

The three variants

  • Pixel — the artwork drawn at a few pixels per side and blown up. Every miss adds detail until the picture is sharp.
  • Silhouette — the artwork flattened to black and cropped close to its middle. Every miss pulls the view back until the whole outline is in frame.
  • Palette — the artwork's main colours as bands from head to feet, each where that colour sits, always one of the 151 Kanto Pokémon. There is nothing else to go on: the palette never changes, however many misses.

How it scores

Attempts are unlimited and there is no timer. Your result is the number of guesses it took, so a miss costs you a point but also buys you a clearer picture. All three puzzles change at midnight Spanish time and are the same for every player that day.
